Hawaiian Dascyllus

These little black and white fish are a kind of damselfish called ‘Alo’ilo’i in Hawaiian. They’re endemic to Hawaii and only attain 5 inches. A familiar sight on reefs, we see them often, usually clustered in communal groups around antler corals. While small, they are fierce and highly territorial – we especially love that they are willing to charge at anything to protect their own (including people) and for their adorably grumpy little faces.
