‘Ahi (aka Yellowfin Tuna)

Fish were a primary food source for ancient Hawaiians. ‘Ahi were especially esteemed – thrilling as sport fishing and delicious to eat. Ahi are a deep sea dwellers; while spending 85% at less than 300 ft, they are known to go deeper than 3800 ft! These fast, sleek and powerful predators can get up to 75 km/h (47 mph) and attain 450 lbs. Named ‘yellow fin’ for their iconic yellow fins and finlets, they are smaller than the closely related and endangered bluefin tuna. Yellow fin often school with other tuna and fish of similar size, and sometimes even join dolphins! Once plentiful, they are greatly over-fished and are considered Near Threatened.

Our Ahi Yellowfin Ear Climbers are edgy and light to wear. Hand carved and cast, these are not flat, but slightly domed, so the light reflects in interesting and organic ways. Hand polished, soldered and finished.
