We Are Family – Spinner Dolphins

Naia – spinner dolphins. A lovely big pod of dolphins swam under us – clearly resting. Swimming slowly and rhythmically, babies stayed close to moms.

Dolphins usually sleep during the day – swimming with half their brains asleep, they stay close to each other in the pod for safety. We stayed still as we could so as not to disturb them.  While we never chase dolphins, its even more important not to disturb them when they are sleeping – too much interference from people and boats mean they don’t get enough rest which can cause health problems.
