Delicate Octopus Choker Necklace

$149.00$249.00

A Delicate Octopus Choker to wear with nearly anything. Light and whimsical, it compliments rather than taking centre stage. It’s perfect to wear to work, brunch, or even to a day at the beach if you like.

He’e (octopus, tako)

In Hawaii, octopuses are called he’e (in Hawaiian, with a glottal stop between the two e’s) and tako (the Japanese word for it) and if we are lucky, we see them when diving. Deeply intelligent, they have multiple ways to defend themselves – black ink, camouflage, even squirting water. (There’s more about them in our dec 2014 blog) We enjoy their company on dives for both playfulness and inventiveness – even when very small these wonderful creatures will pull themselves up to size to intimidate a photographer!

Details

This Delicate Octopus Choker Necklace is a small-scale sculpture of an octopus arm soldered into a fine cable chain. These are hand-sculpted with attention to detail. The wax master is polished, cast, and hand-finished. We make wax replicas from the master, then cast it in low-tarnish silver.  Finally, each piece is soldered into fine chain. This is a sterling silver necklace, the vermeil has an additional finish of 18K gold vermeil (a thick layer of gold).
